AND...........

We are finally parents to a little baby girl; Genesis Juliet Coronado was born at 1033 on 10/8/11. Weighing in at 7lbs 7 ounces and 19 inches long.

My birthing story: On Wednesday, 10/05 I went in for my weekly OB appt; I was still only 3cm/80% effaced; she then stripped my membranes and it was decided that if I didn't go into labor naturally by Sunday, 10/9 that she would induce me due to my elevated blood pressure.

Starting from Thursday 10/6 I started having contractions at night time only ranging from 7-10 minutes...I would get into the bath and they would stop.

On 10/7 I had the same thing happen with contractions starting in the evening again ranging from 7-10 minutes....these were more intense then the day before; so I thought that this was definitely it. Surprisingly, they stopped again around 10pm and I was actually able to sleep thru the night. The contractions started up again this time around 10am, but this time around 5-7 minutes apart. My OB suggested that I go in when I reached every 5 minutes in between contractions.

Come 2 o'clock we were in triage at St. Lukes L&D. I was 4-5 cm dilated/90% effaced and since I was going to be induced the next day; the OB decided to just admit me to L&D and let me settle in and relax before induction the next day. I got put into a permanent room by 330pm and was going to start to get settled. The contractions then started coming every 3 minutes with tons of pressure in my vagina/rectum. My OB came in to check me; by this time it was 430pm; I was a full 6 cm dilated 100% effaced with a massive bulging bag; which was then ruptured. My water breaking was the most nasty thing to experience; gross warm fluids that felt like it was going everywhere!

As soon as my water broke the contractions were coming every 1-2 minutes; and within 45 minutes of my water breaking the contractions were one right after the other; most I couldn't even recover from the previous one before the next one started. I couldn't catch my breath and I started to panic. The pain was unlike anything I could explain and it got so severe that I requested IV pain meds and then finally requested the epidural.

Even though I had prepared for months to do this delivery naturally; it was just not happening. I didn't feel like I was a failure; the pain was too extreme that I couldn't enjoy the birthing experience. Anesthesia was called and came almost immediately; by the time he was finished placing the epidural I was at 10cm dilated; and I started pushing to bring the baby down.

After 2.5 hours of pushing; our baby was born. Complete shock that the baby turned out to be a girl; I was so convinced that I was having a boy.

Well, when Genesis was born; my OB placed her on my chest and I was able to keep her there for a good 20+ minutes since she was doing so well. I wound up tearing something fierce; a deep 3rd degree tear down to my rectum. My beautiful decided to come out with both her hands to her face; so her hands and elbows helped with the tearing....lovely! 50 raytex sponges and about an hour of stitching later I was cleaned up and moved to my room upstairs for the duration of my stay.

So I'm in couplet care in the hospital really swollen and VERY sore. I was moved here around 130am; and I spiked a bad fever and was super dizzy, increased heart rate and even had some hearing decreasing!! LOL (classic symptoms of increased blood loss) So I was started on antibiotics around 3am; Genesis was taken to the nursery for her first bath around 2am and was returned to me around 4am; so I tried to get my 2 hours of sleep. When she was returned to me I attempted to breastfeed her but she was just too sleepy. So I tried to catch some zzzzzz's again....no such luck; now everyone started coming to visit and seriously allI wanted to do was take a shower and sleep! LOL

But things are getting easier; going pee is still a crazy task since I"m soooo swollen. Not sure if I've peed my pants or what! LOL Most of the time I just imagine it b/c I can't really feel a whole lot b/c of all the swelling. But I've had wonderful nurses who have helped me out; taught me about sitz baths and taking a baby diaper, soaking it and placing it in the freezer...AWESOME!! I could sit on those forever!

Genesis was having some issues with throwing up; she had tons of amniotic fluid in her tummy; so she kept throwing up and had no desire to breastfeed. So they took her to the nursery and aspirated about 20ml of amniotic fluid from her tummy. After she came back we finally got our poops and she was able to latch on to breastfeed like a champ....so proud of my little girl.

So crazy to think that i"m now a mommy! CRAZY I'm so in awe every time I look at her....She's the most beautiful combination of the both of us......I can't stop staring at her. She has my hands but daddy's feet.

Honey, honey, honey--just because you had the epidural doesn't mean that you didn't do it naturally!

GOOD job! She is beautiful!!!

Congrats on your beautiful baby girl!
And speaking from experience getting that epidural *should* count as "natural" considering how much it hurts to get it all set up!
